Wesmen done in by streaky shooting in Thunder Bay

The Winnipeg Wesmen got themselves into an early hole and couldn't dig out of it in a 75-61 non-conference loss to the Lakehead Thunderwolves Saturday in Thunder Bay, Ont.

The Wesmen were down 25-12 after a quarter and 44-28 at the half in dropping their second straight game to start the pre-season.

Winnipeg struggled to make shots, shooting 21 of 78 from the field for the day and 7-for-30 from three.

Sean Tarver had 15 points off the bench for the Wesmen, who also got 10 points from Don Dayrit, who posted double-digits in scoring for the second straight game.

Spas Nikolov led the Wesmen with a career-high 11 rebounds.

Davarius Wright, Isaiah Taylor and Blake Anderson each had 12 points to lead the Thunderwolves, while Alston Harris chipped in 10. Wright added 10 rebounds.

Lakehead took control with an 18-4 run to close out the first quarter.
