The Winnipeg Wesmen hit 65 per cent of their shots from three, but weren't able to get past the Lakehead Thunderwolves Saturday at the BOB-FM Shootout.
Leashja Grant had 21 points and 18 rebounds to lead the Thunderwolves women's basketball team to a 62-59 victory over the host Wesmen at the Duckworth Centre.
On the bright side, the Wesmen were 11-for-17 from the three-point line and got another double-double from Faith Hezekiah, who had a team-high 15 rebounds to go with 14 points. For the second straight night, Jessica Dyck was in double figures, scoring 12 points, while Lena Wenke added 10 on a perfect 4-for-4 shooting.
Nikki Ylagan added 17 points and five steals for Lakehead, which moved to 2-0 in the three-day tournament that wraps up Sunday. Sofia Lluch had 10 points.
The Wesmen recovered from a 22-9 deficit after the first quarter and went into halftime down 30-27. But Winnipeg committed 29 turnovers on the day in falling to 1-1 at the Shootout.
Winnipeg will play Manitoba in a noon tip Sunday, while Lakehead and Brandon meet at 10 a.m.
In the other game on the day, the Bisons got past the Bobcats 65-60 to move to 1-1. Brandon fell to 0-2.
Taylor Randall led the Bisons with 18 points, while Montana Kinzel added 12 plus 11 rebounds.
Lauren Anderson's 18 rebounds and 12 points paced the Bobcats, who also got 10 points from Chelsea Misskey and Kendall Russell.
